Postponed AGM & Committee Meeting

Now with the lifting of the cov-id restrictions the AGM was finally able to be convened at the ‘Clock’ in Shardlow on Sunday 26th September at 1.00pm. Nine members attended and three apologies were received. The 2020 AGM minutes were read out  and confirmed, and with no matters arising were accepted. The balance sheet for year ending September 2020 was put to the meeting and with no questions from the floor it was proposed the balance sheet be accepted and carried unanimously. The resignations were accepted with regret. At this point I would normally declare all positions vacant, but these are not normal times and as the committee and officers have been in their positions since 2020 it was proposed and carried unanimously that the named officers and committee in the handbook be accepted en-bloc. There were two exceptions, the race secretary Mr J Gravil has stood down and the treasurer Mrs D Gibson was unable to take up the role due to a family illness, Mrs T Bright a retired accountant offered to take on the treasurer’s role for one year which was acceptable to the Club. Permission to destroy old documents were given and the result of the ballot was as follows, proposition no.1 carried 45 votes for; 3 votes against and 2 abstained; proposition no.2 carried 38 votes for; 11 against and 1 abstained; proposition no.3 carried 40 votes for and 10 votes against. Close of AGM

Committee Meeting; The minutes of the previous meetings were circulated and with no matters arising were passed as a true record. Reviewing the 2021 racing season which due to co-vid restrictions and not being able to race from France the committee was having to make changes to the programme as circumstances dictated, the first two races were flown from Holmsley and Weymouth were well supported and successful but Yelverton coming after a disastrous weekend of club and federation racing  the birdage suffered and losses incurred.  Guernsey was given the green light and the members came out in force with their support and a successful race was had by the Club and members. Young bird racing started and it was soon being reported of massive losses in clubs and some Federations  putting back and cancelling races due to lack of birds, it was at this point the committee took the decision to cancel the Chale Y/B race which I know was not popular in all parts but with the  prospect of a big financial loss for the Club the decision was made and looking at the birdage figures entered in the final Weymouth Y/B race and in hindsight I believe the right decision was made.

2022 Race Programme; The committee confirmed unanimously their commitment that the Club will remain racing from the south and ultimately from France. The 2022 race programme is as follows;

  • Race 1 Carentan on Saturday 28th May 2022
  • Race 2 Fougeres on Saturday 11th June 2022
  • Race 3 Nort-sur-Erdre on Saturday 25th June 2022
  • Races 4 & 5 Angouleme & Vire on Saturday 16th July 2022

If the above race points become unavailable the committee will decide alternative race points as and when required.

There will be one young bird race from Weymouth on Saturday 3rd September also incorporating an Old Hen Classic race with the proviso that young and old hens can be put in the same crates, the Club is seeking clarification from the RPRA. The cost of birdage will be reviewed at the January 2022 committee meeting.

Transport; Jon gave his report stating the season had gone well with very few problems with the transporters but did say it was a big job for one man and was hopeful we could find a member who could help him during the season.The vehicles have their M.O.Ts at the end of September and we are informed that tyres regardless of condition have to be changed after ten years by law which is a cost that will need to be addressed.                                                                                  In closing could I remind members of the date of the Presentation  Dinner held at the Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday 13th November same day as the Doncaster show, any members wishing to buy tickets please drop me a letter and cheque , my address is on the form in the handbook.
